Assignments

Students are able to complete their homework online - anywhere, anytime. Exact assignments for each nine weeks are found on the student's Google Classroom for Band.

Practice records:  Students must practice at least 100 minutes each week and record this information through the practice record form found on their Google Classroom for Band.  Students have been given the classroom codes and shown how to complete the forms.  Parents may also register with Google Classroom to see the progress their student is making.  The entire nine weeks grading period's practice records are loaded on Google Classroom and has the due dates listed.  Students need to complete the online form and submit it each week by Monday afternoon at 3:00pm for full credit; after 3pm the form is no longer active and students will receive a zero for that week.  Practice records are informal assessments and constitute 30% of their band grade.

Playing grades:  Students are asked to upload a video recording (no visuals please) of themselves playing scales/arpeggios or exercises. We are on the honor system. Students will state their first and last name then begin playing WITH A METRONOME. Percussionists are able to record mallet requirements in the morning if needed.
Playing grades are informal assessments and constitute 30% of their band grade.

Written grades:  Students are asked to complete written assignments and tests both on Google Classroom and through worksheets given in class. Written grades are informal assessments and constitute 30% of their band grade.

Daily grades: Daily participation points may be deducted for failure to meet the following requirements: bringing materials to class, sitting with posture, cleaning up after class, having a clearly marked name tag, returning their instrument to locker, etc.  Daily grades are college and career ready assessments and constitute 10% of their band grade.

Concert grades: Concert attendance is mandatory at all public performances.  Dates for these performances can be found on the Band Calendar of Events. Excused absences (student illness, emergency or death in the immediate family, religious holiday, or other reasons deemed acceptable by the director) must be approved prior to the performance and may be made up in a manner to be determined on a case-by-case basis by the teacher.  An unexcused absence from any group performance will result in a grade of 0 for that performance.  Additional consequences for missing a performance will include the loss of future performances or reward/trip privileges.  Students who are not in full uniform will have points deducted from the 200-point concert performance grade. Concerts are formal assessments and constitute 60% of their band grade.
